I often think that the film entertainment industry does not understand it's job description in the USA. It is easily summed up in one word: Entertainment. Although I understand that the suits and the idealists need to cater to a variety of tastes I find myself frustrated by their criticisms most anytime I hear them. Even if I agree.
All I ask is that you entertain me and keep your mouths shut because frankly I don't care what you think. Stop picking on each other so much. And stop throwing your reviews in my face. It's irritating and makes you look bratty. Offer me far reaching comedies, soppy ill-conceived love stories, and out of this world fantasies. Because, those are the types of things I want to see. I get enough reality at home.
Not every film needs to have deep, meaningful, thought provoking purposes. I used to go to an acting coach who constantly encouraged me to "Do something meaningful Jade. Fluff is for phonies." As much as I continue to admire Jon, I beg to differ. Fluff is for the masses. I do not know anyone who goes to the movies to be bombarded by reality on a regular basis. We love the escape into whatever world our film takes place. I could care less if it's shallow as long as it makes me feel emotionally rejuvenated by the conclusion.
